Mil Mundos en Común (MMeC) is a volunteer-run 501(3)(c) nonprofit working to provide access to essential goods, literacy, and digital connectivity in Bushwick, Brooklyn since 2021.
Our small team of volunteers is dedicated to providing our friends, neighbors, and fellow community members ways to come together to share skills and resources in the name of solidarity and autonomous community-building. We regularly collaborate with other groups and fellow volunteers to coordinate regular community programming for all New Yorkers, such as essential goods distributions, free books, and low-cost community internet.
It is our mission is make essential resources easily available and accessible to all, especially for New Yorkers in need and for other community groups providing services and support within New York City. Together, we are building a strong support network to ensure each person can have their basic needs met.

History
En Común began as a byproduct of mutual aid work being done by colectiva members of Mil Mundos Books at the onset of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. We witnessed and experienced worsening pre-existing issues in our Bushwick community due to the pandemic; in response, we began to question what a broader community support network in neighborhood could look like. In 2021, Mil Mundos en Común officially became a 501(3)(c) nonprofit.
Since our founding, our volunteer-run team has launched and sustained multiple programs supporting neighborhood access to essential goods, literacy and digital connectivity. We continue to share space with Mil Mundos Books, a collectively-run bookstore and community center curating for Black, Latinx and Indigenous voices, but operate completely separately from the bookstore’s operations.
